Born in Nottingham, United Kingdom, Erica Deeman is a visual artist whose work intersects race, gender, and the hybridity of Black identity. Deeman centers historical, transnational, and diasporic expressions of Blackness, combining these investigations with personal experiences and ancestral legacies. She moved to the United States 10 years ago and lives in Seattle. Deeman’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, at the Old Truman Brewery, in London; Pier 24 Photography, in San Francisco; the UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive; and the New Orleans Museum of Art, to name a few.
