& the girl grew up
with her fangs
in aunt jemima’s neck
& the girl likes her
black women
strong & sweet
& the girl wants to
chew black women
to pieces
see
our silhouettes
on her tongue
it’s a mouthful
the way
she was raised up
how she believes
all the aunties should
dress her golden pancake

Anastacia-Reneé served as the Seattle Civic Poet from 2017 to 2019 and was the recipient of the 2018 James W Ray Distinguished Artist Award for Washington artists.
