Alta Journal is back at the Bay Area Book Festival this weekend, and we’re thrilled to celebrate the Bay Area’s vibrant literary scene in beautiful Berkeley.

Alta will be at the Outdoor Fair on Sunday, May 7, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering our special festival membership deal, which includes a yearlong subscription to the print magazine, full digital access, a guide to Alta’s favorite bookstores, and a California Book Club hat. We’re also selling bookstore guides and copies of the most recent issue of Alta. Stop by booth #31, near the San Francisco Chronicle Stage, at Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park.

On Saturday, editorial director Blaise Zerega will moderate a panel on writing the American West in historical fiction, featuring authors Rina Ayuyang, Kali Fajardo-Anstine, and Jane Smiley. Smiley and Zerega chatted on Alta Live ahead of the festival about her writing process and the value of the novel.

Many Alta contributors will also be at the festival. Faith Adiele, Jane Ciabattari, Yohanca Delgado, Cory Doctorow, Dave Eggers, John Freeman, Forrest Gander, Annalee Newitz, Keenan Norris, Heather Scott Partington, Allie Rowbottom, Tess Taylor, and Preeti Vangani are on panels or at events on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. And on Sunday, Rita Chang-Eppig, Tongo Eisen-Martin, Doctorow, Freeman, and Partington will participate in panels and events.
