With reporting from the California Independent Booksellers Alliance, Alta Journal brings you a list of the bestselling titles at independent bookstores across Northern and Southern California for the week ending February 2, 2025.

This week’s list features two compelling new titles. First is Good Material, by Dolly Alderton, an unconventional love story that follows protagonist Andy as he tries to understand why his ex-girlfriend, Jen, fell out of love with him. Andy believes that if he can determine the reason, maybe he can fix things with Jen. Also featured is The Sirens’ Call, by Chris Hayes. In his analysis, Hayes explores how our attention has become a valuable resource for which companies compete. He examines the ways this attention economy affects our lives and offers a framework for how to take back control.
