In the introduction to Altatude Volume One: The First Five Years, I had a bit of fun channeling Ambrose Bierce to create an unauthorized entry in the devil’s dictionary. With it, I sought to define Altatude—the name we give the cartoons that appear in print, online, and across our social media accounts—as the “vertical elevation” from which our publication “pleases the jaded, teases the snob, and brings forth exuberant laughter from its readers.” The top five cartoons from the past year certainly deliver on this promise. You may never again snap a picture of a dish for Insta nor consider the bird poop in your hair as a stroke of random good luck!

Enjoy these cartoons by Tyson Cole, Nick Downes, Sarah Morrissette, Heather Murphy, and Ellis Rosen. They’ll have you laughing well into the new year.
