With reporting from the California Independent Booksellers Alliance, Alta Journal brings you a list of the bestselling titles at independent bookstores across Northern and Southern California for the week ending February 26, 2023.
Pulitzer Prize finalist Rebecca Makkai makes the list this week with her fifth work of fiction. I Have Some Questions for You, reviewed by California Book Club editor Anita Felicelli, follows Bodie Kane, a Los Angeles podcast host and professor, as she is drawn into the investigation of her former roommate's murder. Kane begins to second-guess the conviction of a Black man in the case and whether she shared everything she knew. I Have Some Questions for You explores obsession with true crime and analyzes our perceptions of justice. (For more on Makkai, watch her on the California Book Club with Rabih Alameddine.)
