Bumblebees, butterflies, and other invertebrates need our help—and Alta Journal trailblazer Sarina Jepsen has dedicated her career to protecting these pollinators. She joins Alta Journal contributor Jessica Klein for a conversation about bee and butterfly conservation, her work with the Xerces Society, and how we can all make small changes with big impacts.
About the guests:
Sarina Jepsen is the director of the endangered species program at the Xerces Society, a science-based nonprofit dedicated to the conservation of invertebrates. She has authored multiple publications on the conservation of endangered species and has developed management guidance for federal agencies. She holds a master’s in entomology from UC Davis.
Jessica Klein is a freelance journalist whose work has appeared in the Atlantic, the New York Times, and the Guardian. She is a contributing reporter at the Fuller Project, a nonprofit newsroom dedicated to reporting on issues that affect women. She wrote about Sarina Jepsen as part of Alta Journal’s Trailblazers series for the Summer 2021 issue.•
