We covet its chic pottery; now let’s meet the maker behind Heath Ceramics. This Bay Area–based company has been a uniquely stylish part of the California craft landscape since the company’s founding by Edith and Brian Heath in 1948. With flatware, home goods, tiles, and decorative elements, Heath’s artisans create beautiful, functional objects that are celebrated the world over for their simple, down-to-earth elegance. Tung Chiang has been running Heath’s Clay Studio since 2012 where he oversees the development of hotly anticipated new items each year. As part of Alta Live’s ongoing Made in California series, Chiang will talk about Heath’s ongoing work, discuss the company’s signature style, and detail what it means to create in the Golden State.
