Alta Journal took home the top magazine prize last night at the San Francisco Press Club’s 47th Annual Greater Bay Area Journalism Awards. More than 300 people crowded into the Julia Morgan Ballroom to celebrate the work of news organizations from print, digital media, radio, and television. Judging for the contest was performed by an independent panel that included journalists from Cleveland, Ohio; Little Rock, Arkansas; Los Angeles; and New Orleans.

Alta was delighted to win the Overall Excellence award in the magazine category and to see a feature story, “South Asian Artists Confront Oppression with Joy,” by Sonia Paul, receive third-place honors. “We’re beyond thrilled to see the amazing work of our team recognized by the San Francisco Press Club,” says Alta’s editorial director, Blaise Zerega. “It’s truly an honor to be included among so many great journalists.”

In a statement, the press club said, “This year’s entries showcased outstanding storytelling, meticulous reporting, and deep commitment to the profession.”

Last night’s gala dinner featured lifetime achievement awards for Politico’s Carla Marinucci and KCBS reporter Doug Sovern. Check out the full list of winners here.•
