With reporting from the California Independent Booksellers Alliance, Alta Journal brings you a list of the bestselling titles at independent bookstores across Northern and Southern California for the week ending April 30, 2023.
California Book Club author Rebecca Solnit is featured on the list this week alongside coeditor and climate activist Thelma Young Lutunatabua for Not Too Late: Changing the Climate Story from Despair to Possibility. This collection of essays and interviews presents powerful voices encouraging readers to think critically about climate change. Also on the list this week is Oregon native TJ Klune’s In the Lives of Puppets. The novel offers a glimpse of life on Earth in which humans are in hiding and robots are the ones in control. The narrative follows a family unit (consisting of a human and three robots) whose survival is threatened when a well-kept secret resurfaces.
