With reporting from the California Independent Booksellers Alliance, Alta Journal brings you a list of the bestselling titles at independent bookstores across Northern and Southern California for the week ending June 25, 2023.

Alta’s July California Book Club pick, Stay True, by Hua Hsu, is featured on the list this week. This Pulitzer Prize–winning memoir follows Hsu through some of the most difficult times of his life as he deals with the death of a close friend and searches for a sense of belonging. And appearing again on the list is Los Angeles author Taylor Jenkins Reid’s Carrie Soto Is Back. After her record of 20 Grand Slam titles is broken, retired tennis player Carrie Soto returns to the court to play one more season, coached by her father and training with an old flame.
