With reporting from the California Independent Booksellers Alliance, Alta Journal brings you a list of the bestselling titles at independent bookstores across Northern and Southern California for the week ending November 5, 2023.

This week’s bestsellers list features two books now appearing on-screen. The first is Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI, by David Grann. Set in 1920s Oklahoma, the story follows the Osage Nation, once affluent landowners, as they fall victim to a nefarious scheme. Last month, director Martin Scorsese released his adaptation of the first two sections of the book for the big screen. And on a small screen near you: All the Light We Cannot See premiered on Netflix last week. The limited series, starring Mark Ruffalo and Hugh Laurie, is based on Anthony Doerr’s 2014 historical fiction novel about the parallel lives of a French boy and a German girl during World War II.
