Fiction came to the pages of Alta this summer. Our debut featured Peter Orner’s “Above Santa Cruz,” a story he included in his new collection, Maggie Brown & Others. The book was longlisted for the Simpson/Joyce Carol Oates Prize and named a Notable Book by the New York Times and the Chicago Tribune. Our Fall 2019 issue featured “The Gnome,” a new story by Ander Monson that will be included in his forthcoming collection, The Gnome Stories. Monson is the award-winning author of eight books and directs the MFA program at the University of Arizona. Upcoming issues will include short stories by Susan Straight and Dagoberto Gilb, among others. In the meantime, do you have a favorite West Coast fiction writer you’d like to see in Alta?
