Issue 26 of Alta Journal is one of our most eclectic yet. With a special section and foldout map devoted to all that is vibrant and beautiful in Baja, Mexico, and dispatches that range from the front line of a secession movement in Oregon to life behind the walls of San Quentin prison to the mysterious disappearance of an original Mouseketeer, this issue is packed with stories you won’t want to miss.

To kick it off right, we’re partnering with the Oakland bookstore Clio’s to toast writers Joy Lanzendorfer (“Steinbeck and the Sea of Cortez”), Kate McQueen (“The Never-Ending Story,” cowritten with incarcerated journalist Joe Garcia), and Jessica Zack, who will be talking with photographer Judy Dater about her portraits of Bay Area gun owners, prints of which will be on display at Clio’s.

The event is free to attend, but please register in advance. We hope to see you there!
