With reporting from the California Independent Booksellers Alliance, Alta Journal brings you a list of the bestselling titles at independent bookstores across Northern and Southern California for the week ending June 18, 2023.

California Book Club author Isabel Allende is featured on the list this week for her latest work, The Wind Knows My Name. The novel follows two young children (separated by eight decades) as they traverse unknown countries, unaccompanied by family and searching for a home. Another book debuting on the list this week is Burn It Down: Power, Complicity, and a Call for Change in Hollywood, by Maureen Ryan. She examines the movie industry’s social structure and the way its self-created myths allow exploitation and abuse to occur.
