With reporting from the California Independent Booksellers Alliance, Alta Journal brings you a list of the bestselling titles at independent bookstores across Northern and Southern California for the week ending March 2, 2025.
This Saturday is International Women’s Day—the perfect time to pick up a book by a female author. Here are two bestseller suggestions: Octavia E. Butler’s novel Parable of the Sower, first published in 1993, remains eerily relevant today. Set in 2024, the book depicts a dystopian world gripped by social inequality and climate change, as seen through the eyes of Lauren Olamina, a young woman navigating a Los Angeles ravaged by fires. In bell hooks’s All About Love, the author explores the concept of love in 13 thought-provoking chapters, each offering a meditation on the value of a different relationship common to many of our lives.
