Two original Alta Journal works were acknowledged by the Best American series in its 2024 editions. John Freeman’s “Road Work,” published in Alta’s Issue 25, was listed among the Notable Essays and Literary Nonfiction of 2023 in The Best American Essays 2024.
In The Best American Mystery and Suspense 2024, Rachel Howzell Hall’s “Breakdown in the Right Lane” was included among the Other Distinguished Mystery and Suspense of 2023. Howzell’s short thriller appeared in Alta’s Issue 23.
